This week brought a new place to sell and the everyday order problems every shop has: a customer wants one item refunded, an extra part added, or a return.

New this week

Sell on eBay from the same system

List a product on eBay from the product's own page. eBay orders arrive with your website's orders to pick, pack and ship the same way, and the quantity on eBay follows your real stock. Available on request.

  • Create my policies: answer a few questions and Kaniva sets up your eBay shipping, payment and return policies
  • Shipping that eBay prices for each buyer from the product's weight and size
  • Keep back from eBay: hold back a unit or two so the last one can't sell on eBay and your website at the same moment
  • A clear warning, with what to do, when a new eBay account isn't allowed to list yet

Change an order after it's placed

  • Refund by item: refund some items, choose which go back in stock, and add shipping. Tax is worked out for you
  • Edit order: change quantities, add or remove items, adjust a price or the shipping, or update the address. Kaniva refunds the difference or sends the customer a link to pay the balance
  • Cancelling a paid order refunds it at the same time
  • Returns, each with its own number: record why it's coming back, check its condition when it arrives, put good items back in stock, and refund less any restocking fee

Stock is held, then taken when it's packed

With Advanced Inventory, an order now holds its stock the moment it's placed, so nothing sells twice. The units stay on the shelf count until they're picked and packed, so your counts are right while orders wait in totes.

Product add-ons

Offer extras on a product page, like a hardware kit, powder coat or a rush build. Add-ons follow the order through packing slips, pick lists, refunds and returns, and phone orders and the website chat know them too.

Workspace for running the business

A place for the work behind the shop. Available on request.

  • My work: your tasks by due date, with repeating tasks
  • Projects with notes, checklists, files and links to orders, products and customers
  • Boards: whiteboards with sticky notes that turn into tasks
  • Flowcharts you can run: turn a process into a checklist of tasks

A phone receptionist that solves it first

The AI phone receptionist now answers order status, products, prices, hours and policies itself, and passes the call on only when a person is really needed.

  • It finds a caller's latest order from the number they're calling from
  • Stores that share a phone line get one greeting, then the right store
  • Kaniva has its own 24/7 support line on kaniva.io, which can set up a trial store during the call

Smaller things that add up

  • Save and keep editing on products, and a link back to the product list with your filters kept
  • Instant delivery updates from your Shippo account
  • Ticket replies show whether the email went out
  • New inventory items get a default home bin, and part numbers are suggested for new products

Security and reliability

A routine security scan found and fixed several issues. There is no sign any were ever used. Stores also get these improvements:

  • Two-step sign-in now protects every way into your store
  • Payment keys, integrations and other sensitive settings are for owners and admins only
  • A store on its own web address gets the same protections as kaniva.io
  • A parcel's public tracking page shows only the recipient's first name and city
  • Kaniva now checks its own health around the clock, and nightly backups retry and report why if they fail

What's next

eBay listings for more stores, and more of Workspace.
