Shipping, private products and moving your catalogue in

Stores can connect their own shipping account for live rates, sell private products to chosen customers, take design files with an order and move a whole catalogue in or out with a spreadsheet.

The new year started with the Kaniva team building the basics a working shop needs before it opens: real shipping rates, a way to bring products in, and pages that belong to the store.

New this week

Your own shipping rates

Connect your own Shippo account in the shipping settings and checkout shows real carrier rates.

  • Set the ship-from address your rates are worked out from
  • Fallback rates for when live rates aren't available
  • Size-based (dimensional weight) pricing for bulky boxes

Customers can send you their design files

Turn on file uploads for a product and customers can attach their design with the order: drawings, artwork, PDFs, images or a zipped folder.

  • Make the file required before checkout, or optional
  • Write your own instructions for each product
  • The files arrive with the order in your admin

Private products and customer groups

Make a product private and only the customers or groups you choose can see it. Useful for custom quotes, dealers and repeat business customers.

Bring your catalogue in, or take it with you

Export every product to a spreadsheet, or import from one, with categories matched by name. A template shows the columns.

Smaller things that add up

  • Search fields on every product: a title, description and keywords, with good previews when a product is shared on social media
  • Edit your own Terms, Privacy, Licence and Shipping & Returns pages, or switch any of them off
  • Print shipping labels to your own label printer through your PrintNode account
  • Theme and pages now live together in the Content section of the admin menu
  • Clicking Buy label twice no longer buys two labels

Security and reliability

A routine security review found and fixed several issues, and each store's settings and files are kept strictly to that store.

What's next

A blog and a menu builder for every store, sale prices and a media library.
