Custom work usually means money up front and the rest before it ships. This week checkout learned to do that.
New this week
Deposits at checkout
Turn on Enable deposits store-wide in Settings → Payment, then Allow deposit on each product, with a store default percentage or one per product.
- At checkout the customer picks Pay in full now or Pay a deposit now, with the amounts shown live
- Choose whether shipping and tax are split, due with the balance, or paid up front
- Deposit orders move to processing so the build can start; digital downloads wait for the balance
- Each order gets a private balance payment link, a Pay Remaining Balance button in the confirmation email, and an Email Balance Request button on the order page
- Works with Stripe, PayPal and Venmo, and for cash orders too, with Record Payment for a balance paid in person
An activity timeline on every order
The order page has an Activity feed: placed, payments, status changes, refunds, tracking and every email sent, in order.
Know when an invoice is paid
When a customer pays an invoice online, you get an email with the amount and what's left, and the customer gets a receipt in your store's name, with a Pay Remaining Balance button if they paid part.
Smaller things that add up
- Build queue limits count deposit orders, and the product page won't let a customer order more than the slots left
- Stock can be saved below zero to track backorders
