A big week for the office side of the shop: what things cost, what the business is worth, who called and what's on the calendar.

New this week

Know what your products cost to make

For manufactured products, Kaniva adds up materials, labour and machine time through every level of the bill of materials and suggests a sell price at your target margin.

  • Set hourly rates for each work center, and pick one for each step of a build
  • A cost breakdown per product, with Apply as product price in one click
  • A chart of cost and suggested price over time
  • Optional automatic recalculation when a bill of materials or a part's cost changes

Accounting your accountant will recognise

  • Profit & Loss now runs Revenue, Cost of Goods, Gross Profit, Operating Expenses and Net Profit, with each expense category marked as cost of goods, operating or other
  • A Balance Sheet as of any date, with money owed to you and inventory value worked out for you
  • A Year-End Report for your tax preparer, ready to print, with deductible expenses by IRS category

A calendar, with online booking

Orders, work orders, tasks and your own events in one calendar, with drag-and-drop rescheduling. Available on request.

  • A public booking page where customers pick a time and get a confirmation email
  • Set your business hours and blocked dates
  • Reminders for upcoming events

Phone calls logged in the CRM

Connect a VoIP.ms phone line and calls are logged to the right customer automatically, with the recording and a written transcript.

  • Transcripts label who said what, and card and bank numbers are removed
  • "Call me back Thursday" or "send me a quote" becomes a task with a due date
  • Callers who aren't in your CRM yet are added as leads
  • Search every transcript by keyword

Smaller things that add up

  • Companies in the CRM have tax ID fields and a private document vault for certificates, W-9s and contracts
  • Adding a phone number to a contact links its earlier calls
  • A team directory for employees and contractors, available on request
